it says there are more honors students in india than kids in usa, well think about all the kids in india and the kids in usa.
Joe, I believe that’s the entire point of the video – to show how massive both China and India are.
you suck. that is my fact.
Thank you kindly! I am glad that I could invoke some sort of emotional reaction – I will relish in my suckiness.
Fantastic video on the progression of information technology, researched by Karl Fisch, Scott McLeod, and Jeff… http://bit.ly/blch3p
[...] India has more honor roll students than America HAS students. Filed under: OMG-Facts Leave a comment Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) ( subscribe to comments on this post ) [...]
But think about the differences in opportunity. In America, we get free education and usually are able to go to school due to ease of access and the resources available to us. In India, many times kids live miles from a school or have to work so they can’t go to school. When they do go to school, more often than not, the education is sub-par because the resources aren’t readily available to them.
please understand that the fact that “india has more honor roll students than America HAS students” in no way means that indians are “smarter” or that americans are “dumb”.. it just means that indian students see more incentives in studying and have fewer dstractions.. whereas american kids are exposed to too much crap.. and are practically spoonfed everything by their parents/teachers..etc … they really don’t have half a chance, until their grownups get their act together..
and i blame paris hilton.
While what you said may or may not have some truth to it, the stat you mentioned is more about numbers than cultural attitudes.
If India has four times as many people, than the “top 25%” of any group in India is going to equal (in number) the total population of the same group in the US.
It’s absolutely worth thinking about, as it certainly does have an effect on the world, but it’s not useful as a commentary on differences between the education systems (or the cultures around them) in those two countries.
You are missing the point. It’s about how big India is and therfore how they will shape the world. It’s about how they see future payoff for being excellent meanwhile we don’t. These numbers are going up. So soon the precentage will surpass ours it’s only a matter of time. That is the point. We are too distracted to see. But we better.
