I was just contacted by my good friend Sid Steward (O’Reilly’s PDF Hack fame). Letting me know that he is working on a new version of PDFTK, a killer PDF manipulation application that Print(fu) uses religiously. He asked if I had any requests! Whooo hooo. My request? XML metadata on PDFs. Right now Print(fu) uses PDFTK to get a pdfs pagecount, title, and merging Print(fu)’s back page with the ordered PDF.. (makes it easier for the person printing the books). Check it out!
In addition to PDFTK (I can not express how much I love that app!), Sid has developed a few other cool apps. Check ‘em out.
GoJot, http://gojot.com
Add comments to any web page.
LookLeap, http://lookleap.com
A better TinyURL. Also offers (online) PDF to HTML conversion.
PunchPoll, http://punchpoll.com
A distributed polling service.

Are you still in touch with Sid? I’ve left him a few messages over the years, but never heard back from him. The home of pdftk (www.accesspdf.com) seems to be down right now, and the site for his book (www.pdfhacks.com) looks like somebody has taken over the domain (it may have expired). I’m trying to find out what happend to pdftk. Can you please let him know that people are still interested in both his book and the software.
Thanks,
Karl Heinz
Hey Karl, I have not heard anything from Sid in years! Maybe we need to start a “Where’s Sid” campaign!
