Here is a breath taking photo taken by Druck Muller in Patagonia Argentina , captured Comet McNaught, 2 galaxies, our own Milky Way galaxy – and a boat load of stars. Personally when I see these types of photos , the question of “are we alone” seems so incredible self important and statistically impossible.

This is beautiful, sans pizza hut.
One of my favorite galaxies is Messier 83(M83, funny story but it’s also how I found my favorite band too) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:M83_-_Southern_Pinwheel.jpg , it’s part of Centaurus, which also gorgeous if you wanna look it up. Curious…where did you find this photo? Tried googling and nothing.
M83 is stunning – we were able to get a decent view of it when i was in Colorado. This picture came from Nasa’s Astronomy Photo of the Day http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/
